About Us

AWSDA’s MISSION, VISION & VALUE STATEMENT

Association for Women’s Self Defense Advancement (AWSDA), an international, non-profit (501-c-3), educational organization, dedicated to ending violence against women by providing training programs for instructors and services for women, designed to increase their knowledge of self defense and rape prevention. AWSDA promotes greater awareness about women’s self defense by

  • Holding an annual training seminar where trainers meet, share ideas, strategies and techniques.
  • Encouraging women to attend the annual training seminar. The seminar has, instructor, intermediate and beginner level classes.
  • Issuing a highly acclaimed and informative quarterly newsletter, The Fisted Rose.
  • Putting women in contact with self defense instruction for FREE through our extensive support and referral network database.
  • Providing free or low cost Rape Prevention classes
  • Making it possible to correspond with other AWSDA members all year long through the AWSDA List Serve.
  • Certifying trainers as AWSDA Rape Prevention Instructors.

To create a safer society where every woman learns practical, effective self defense skills.

VALUES STATEMENTS FOR AWSDA

AWSDA members believe:

  • It is important that every woman has access to readily available, practical self defense training.
  • It is important to educate women about their legal rights in regards to self defense.
  • It is important to provide outreach, rape prevention and self defense training to women in their communities.
  • It is important to maintain an international registry of instructors teaching women’s self-defense.
  • It is important to establish a collaborative effort with other organizations in order to promote women’s self-reliance and to facilitate the provision of a full range of related services including rape crisis and counseling centers.
